This scene from Blade Runner 2049 (2017) is rich with emotion. After analysing the sound design layers—rain, street rumbles, and hologram glitches—I chose the rain to carry the emotional weight of the scene. To musically represent the rain, I used an alto choir, a flute ensemble, and a string ensemble playing short notes along a sombre and romantic chord progression. These sounds were processed with techniques like granular synthesis and spatialization to emulate the texture and unpredictability of rainfall.
