Sumud - Short Film
This project is the one I am most proud of—not only because I had the chance to collaborate with my wife, but also because it represents one of my most intricate compositions. Drawing inspiration from Giacinto Scelsi and Iannis Xenakis, I ventured into the realm of microtonal music. For this film, I conducted and recorded a string septet performing my composition, with each musician gliding seamlessly from note to note, creating continuously shifting chords.
The piece is structured in three movements—Peace, Pain, and Rebirth—symbolizing the resilience of Palestinians enduring occupation and genocide. The video narrates the events unfolding in Palestine over the past 75 years, reflecting my wife’s memories and nostalgia for her homeland. It features AI-generated imagery and a music-responsive overlay, emulating red liquid, that moves dynamically with the score.
